Fried Green Beans

Some where along the way we were told that fried food was bad for you.  But the dirty little secret is that we all love it!  And who wouldn’t?  Crispy, greasy, tasty little morsels dipped in all kinds of crazy sauces and condiments.  I don’t know what I like more; the fried food or the condiments.  My husband calls me the Condiment Queen and I have a refrigerator to back it up!  This recipe mixes the forbidden fried coating with something a little bit healthy; green beans.  How bad can that be for you? Right?  And dipped in horseradish sauce – oh wow…. taste buds are watering!

Fried Green Beans

Ingredients
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup milk
  • 8 ounces fresh green beans
  • 1 cup flour
  • 2 cups panko crumbs
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. garlic powder
  • 1 tsp. cayenne pepper
  • 4 cups vegetable oil
  • Horseradish Sauce:
  • 2 tbsp freshly grated horseradish
  • 8 ounces sour cream drained
  • ¼ cup fresh lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and black pepper
  • Dash hot sauce
Instructions
  1. Heat the oil on medium-high until it starts to ripple. If it begins to smoke, reduce the heat.
  2. Place the flour, panko and eggs; lightly beaten into three separate bowls. Working in small batches, first dredge the green beans into the flour and then the egg mixture; and finally the panko. Carefully place the breaded green beans into the hot oil. Turning gently until golden brown.
  3. Remove from the oil and place on a paper towel to absorb the excess oil.
  4. For the Horseradish sauce mix all the ingredients in a small bowl. Refrigerate until ready to serve.
