Grilled Meatball Sliders

Nothing is better than a thick juicy meatball with fresh bread.  These grilled meatball sliders are a great way to enjoy your favorite Italian recipes on the grill.  These little guys are more filling than you would think which makes their small size perfect.  You can eat just one or if your feeling particularly hungry, grab two!  I couldn’t find any fresh buns the right size, so I just bought what I thought looked good and cut them in half and it worked out perfectly.

Grilled Meatball Sliders
Recipe type: Main
  • Ingredients:
  • 1 lb Italian Meat Mixture (beef, pork and veal)
  • 1 egg
  • ¼ cup Italian Bread Crumbs
  • 1½ tsp. garlic salt
  • 1½ tsp. dried oregano
  • 1 red bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • ½ white onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • 1 tsp. red pepper flakes
  • 6 slices mozzarella or provolone cheese
  • 6 small buns
  1. In a medium saute pan, over low heat, caramelize the onions and red bell pepper slices. Add the tomato sauce and red pepper flakes and allow to simmer over low heat.
  2. Gently mix together the first 5 ingredients. For 6 small patties. Set up your grill for direct heat. Place your patties on the hot grill and cook until they are cooked thoroughly and no longer pink in the middle. While still on the grill place cheese slices on each burger and allow to melt. Remove.
  3. To build you slider, place a burger on each bun. Top with sauce and serve.

They are so easy, if you can make a hamburger patty then you can do this! And I love that they are small, I don’t feel as quilty eating one!
